Most of us will feel intimidated with the word “hackers”. They seem as the undefeated persons in the digital world. People are afraid of them and hope that none of those hackers find interests in their computers. However, it’s not like there’s nothing you can do once you find them invading your computer. There are some common proactive precautions you can do to save yourself from a great loss.

Office-Computer-HackedFirst, if you feel in any way that someone has hacked your computer and stolen your personal data, contact  all institutions in which you have yourself registered immediately to prevent anyone from misusing them. Contact your bank to freeze your account and change your password. Do this to your other accounts to prevent you from great loss. When you contact those institutions, do not use your computer. Use phone or visit their offices directly.

Second, disconnect your computer from the internet connection. The hackers cannot misuse your personal information when your computer is not connected to the internet. Tips for Deciding When to Upgrade Your Computer – Part 2

If you are not the kind of person who always buy new computer products and have the urge to get the most updated technology, then you are the type of a person who will upgrade your computer once you feel that you need it. Back in the day, you thought that the computer you bought was adequate to meet your need at that time. However, as the time goes by, your need changes and it will force you to upgrade your computer to meet your need.

Nevertheless, you need to reconsider when the amount of the money you have to spend to upgrade your computer is more than the amount to buy a brand new one. Sometimes stores are offering great deals in buying a brand new set of a computer when there are many parts of your computer that need to be upgraded. If that is the case, then you should just buy the new one than to upgrade your computer.

Tips for Deciding When to Upgrade Your Computer – Part 1

When people buy new computers, they buy the most updated version so that they won’t have to upgrade it for some time. However, as the computer world keeps on developing, you will need to upgrade your computer sooner or later. Now, when is the right time to upgrade your computer?

The first sign your computer needs an upgrade is when it starts to run slowly. When your memory starts to be filled with lots of data, it starts to run slow. To get it back to its usual speed, you can erase the unused files, clean your browsers, and defrag it. If your computer still runs slow after you have done all these steps, then it is a sign that your computer needs an upgrade. Upgrade your computer memory to make it move faster.

The second reason to upgrade your computer is when there are new technologies coming around. Computer world changes very fast. New items and technologies are coming to the market everyday. If you are a computer freak typical guy, then you must be tempted to always be up to date. Buy the latest software and newest hardware products that offer faster and better quality for your computer.

Leave Microsoft Word, Convert to Open Office – Part 2

OpenOffice comes with Linux, which is also free. Even though I had been wanting to move to Linux, I could not find the best time to learn to adjust to the changing. But since once OpenOffice can be run in XP as well, I switched from Word to OpenOffice in an instant and it was never dissapointing.

Now, I still don’t understand why so many people are still stuck to Word. OpenOffice is a better program with spreadsheet, presentation program, database, word processor and many additional programs. It is very similar to Word and it is free! Why would you spend your money on the program which is very similar to the one which is offered for free? Word has never done any significant progress anyway since 1998. Do not pay for something that you know the quality is just the same with the one you can get for free.

I just hope that OpenOffice will keep on developing the program and does not repeat Word’s history once they have many users. I have also heard about another open source program called Abiword. Hopefully more and more open source programs will be developed for us to choose so there will be more competition which result to a continuous development.

Leave Microsoft Word, Convert to Open Office – Part 1

I used and loved Word perfect in the past when it changed the screen from blue to white. It was a flexible program and I followed each versions of it from the beginning to the newer ones which were definitely much more easier to operate. It was also a great program which had shortcuts to allow us to do easier formatting compared to Word.

But then Microsoft Office came to the market with its free bundle and people started to use Word and Excel rather than Word perfect and Lotus. Since Word and Excel were free and very similar to Word perfect and Lotus, schools and houses used them and slowly Word perfect and Lotus were lost in the competition.
However, once Word beat Word perfect, it started to lose its competition spirit. Now its price is so high and there are hardly any development in the last years. Today’s version is pretty much the same with the 1998′s version. The biggest complain about Word is the grammar checker. It has never been improved and therefore is not credible. Nobody is foolish enough to trust Word’s grammar checker. The problem is, even though with many disadvantages above, Word is used by everybody so that only few people are willing to leave it.
