If you have switched over from XP to Vista you surly will have known by now that Vista is much slower. This lack of speed has to do with Vista dedicating a lot of its resources to trying to "look pretty". Making the operating system look nice is great and all but when it comes time to actually get some work done it can be a huge problem. In this article I'm going to show you two quick ways to make your Vista perform a it faster but you are going to have to be willing to sacrifice some of Vista's looks in order to get more function. Keep in mind that there really is no point in having your computer look really nice since you are the only person that is really going to be seeing it.

If you have switched over from XP to Vista you surly will have known by now that Vista is much slower. This lack of speed has to do with Vista dedicating a lot of its resources to trying to “look pretty”. Making the operating system look nice is great and all but when it comes time to actually get some work done it can be a huge problem. In this article I’m going to show you two quick ways to make your Vista perform a it faster but you are going to have to be willing to sacrifice some of Vista’s looks in order to get more function. Keep in mind that there really is no point in having your computer look really nice since you are the only person that is really going to be seeing it.

If you are using the Ultimate, Home Premium, Enterprise or Business version of Vista then you probably have the Aero effect turned on (unless you have already turned it off manually). The Aero effect makes your operating system have a glass like effect on the windows which looks good but really serves no purpose to the end user (end user being you). The Aero effect also has another feature called Windows Flip 3D which is a fancy version of the Alt + Tab combination which allows you to flip through your open programs. To activate the Window Flip 3D, open a few programs, hold down the windows button and press the Tab button a few times. You should see your open programs rotate in a fancy way. These features really serve no purpose to the average person so here’s how to get rid of them:

What your going to want to do now is to click Start, click on the Control Panel and then on the left hand side make sure that the Control Panel Home is selected. Now click on Appearance and Personalize, click on the Personalize link, click on the Windows Color and Appearance and at the bottom of the window select “Open classic appearance properties for more color options”. A new window should appear and in this window where it has the Color Scheme drop down box just select Windows Vista Basic. Now click Apply and then OK and this should turn off the Aero effect.

One of the biggest features that Vista has that is pretty much useless is the sidebar. Unless you are actually using the Windows gadgets on the sidebar regularly then its probably best that you get rid of it. It literally serves no purpose to the average user except to make your computers desktop look nice. Here’s the process:Right click on the windows sidebar icon in the System Tray and select the properties option from the drop down menu ( if your not sure what the system tray is, its that little group of icons in the bottom right hand corner). Now, in the Windows Sidebar Properties dialog box uncheck the box that says “Start Sidebar when Windows Starts” and select Apply and then OK. Now just right click on the Windows Sidebar Icon in the system tray again and select Exit.

By doing both of these things you have now freed up your computer of some resources which will allow you to get more work done faster.

Third, if you buy a computer mainly for graphic purposes, it is better if you buy one whose graphic cards are not integrated. The latest games need a computer with dedicated graphic card to play. To find out whether a computer has an integrated graphic card or not, look at the back of the CPU. If the monitor cable is plugged vertical, then it has an integrated graphic card. If the port is horizontal, then it has a dedicated graphic card.To get a better speed, you will also need at least Core2Duo processor and 4 gigabytes of RAM.

When you finally enter the store to buy your computer, hold on to the specification you have had in mind. Do not give in to the sales representative’s persuasion to buy the latest high-powered version of computer when you only need a basic one. Ask the sales representative to explain the specification of each computer and make sure you choose the right computer to buy.

With everyone around you now having a computer set, finally you have decided to buy one for you so you won’t miss the digital era. But as a new comer in the computer world, how do you know that you won’t make mistake in purchasing your first computer? You know that advertisements are not always true and you cannot trust sales representatives with all sweet words they say to you. So, how can you know that you will pick the right computer?

First thing you need to know is your purpose in buying your computer. Do you buy it for the whole family or only for yourself? If you buy it for your family, then you must consider everyone’s needs with the computer. You yourself may need the word processing program to do your work, your wife may want to do an online shopping, and your kids would love to play some online and offline games. As a family computer, it may need a photo editor program for editing family photos taken on summer vacation. So, make sure that you will buy a computer that can suffice to these purposes.

Second, if the computer is for yourself, you have to know too what will you use your computer for. Will you use it mostly for work? Or will you play games with it? Or will you mostly do the internet surfing? If you will just use it for word processing and internet surfing, then you only need to buy decent inexpensive computer. However, if you will do more games, graphics or other activities which need big amount of memory, then you have to buy a computer with high amount of RAM and good graphic card.
